Strategic learning in Scrum teams

While dealing with the increasing complexity of software development, teams need the ability to gain new skills while they work. Fortunately Scrum has some embedded learning with the feedback loops that take the form of Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective. But this kind of learning is more tactical. Meaning it addresses short term challenges, extracting lessons learned and acting upon improving immediately in the next sprint. For example, in the Agile in Romania Study we

Engaging students in product development

Last year we wrote a blog post regarding a cool academic initiative developed by the Cybernetics Faculty (CSIE). Students from the senior year were invited to form teams and build a product during the first semester using Web and Mobile technologies. This March Eduard had the opportunity to share the results of the competition during BucharestJS #EduTech Meetup. The winning team is call FullStackers. A 5 team members that managed to develop and deliver a

Retrospective Q1

First three months of 2019 helped me realise that this year will be different. We had the time to finish up the projects we started in 2018, study the market and prepare for the next initiatives. Our activity in the past years involved forming teams and creating a proper environment for people to collaborate. This need came from the growth goals and the desire to launch new or significantly improved products. This year started with

[Video interview] How can teams maximize productivity?

Eduard had a wonderful time talking to Vlad Andriescu, Editor in Chief at start-up.ro. The interview was about how teams can maximize their productivity. We talked about Agile and software teams. In addition, we finished the talk with 3 things we learned from the past 3 years of entrepreneurship.    Some snippets from the discussion: “2018 was a year in which we managed to grow.  Also from a client perspective as well. We worked with

Launching the Agile Survey in Romania

We want to feel the pulse of Agile within the industry and find out people’s perception of this subject. This is why we are launching a national survey. The questionnaire measures the impact of Agile methodology within organizations that have adopted it as a working method. We aim to discover the most used methods, techniques, and tools. We are also looking at learning practices and other initiatives implemented in teams/organizations. If you are a Scrum

How to engage Students in learning Product Development

Web Technologies (WT) and Mobile Devices and Applications (DAM), two disciplines from Cybernetics Faculty (CSIE), have joint forces and are approaching learning in a practical and modern way. More than 15 student teams have entered a competition where they must develop a software product and experience real-life development situations. Growing and building product teams is something we are passionate about. When we heard about this learning opportunity,  we were happy to get on board. Eduard is acting

Astazi, in industria IT, disponibilitatea te face mai valoros decat un angajat

How Agile transformed Testing

Testing – the island of bugs and production failures, where products and apps crash after a long development trip. Any plan that defers testing to the end of the project is broken. Thankfully, this changed in the past decade, as software development embraced Agile as a mindset and consequently implemented agile development practices as a way of working.  Thus, having continuous feedback loops through implementation lifecycle and spotting those issues in proactively. Using concepts like CI

Rethinking change

The idea of rethinking change appeared while we did a review and retrospective on the past week work. It is something that we do on projects, we zoom in and out on our work, generate ideas and solutions that could be useful in achieving our commitment. It’s a common saying, practice what you preach :). The discussion took us back to a program we did in 2016 – 2017 with one of our clients, Adore Me, an e-commerce company (find out more details about

Books and readings

A week ago, a friend of mine asked me to recommend some books on project management or something close to this topic. So I decided to write this blog post and synthesize a list of books that were read by me and friends of mine. The topics approached are project management, team management, product, business and personal development. So, besides the books from the header image :D, here is my list of books I recommend

Ken Rubin – Agile Transition Lessons

Agile for Startups Mindset He talked about how the manifesto should transform for a startup.  Their context is different than an already formed company and team.

He shares what is a retrospective and why it is good for a business. Eduard also adds some tips on how to implement the method. In conclusion, we hope you will enjoy it and find it insightful or helpful. RETROSPECTIVE
